It opens the search ribbon if needed and puts an active cursor in the search bar. You can use this shortcut key everywhere in Outlook, even when the search bar is missing.
Previously you could find the search bar IN a folder of your mailbox. Since Outlook released in Maythe search bar is in the Outlook title bar at the very top.

The only downside is the Search tab is now hidden until you click in the Search box.
With the arrival of the new Search box, this tab is now missing. Advertisement You can still add it, you just have to be a bit sneaky. The tab will now be visible all the time. However, this does create a minor problem.
